Russian defense plant, oil refinery in Samara come under attack – social media

During the night and morning of June 10, at least three fuel-energy and defense industry facilities in Russia were targeted in attacks.

That is according to the Telegram channel ASTRA, Ukrinform reports.

An OSINT analysis confirmed a strike on the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary. Local residents reported several air raid alerts and delayed notifications from authorities. ASTRA published several videos from the scene. One shows the first moments after a strike on the facility's administrative building, while another shows smoke rising above the same defense enterprise from a different angle.

The head of Russia's Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, confirmed that Cheboksary had come under a missile attack early on June 10, though he did not specify which facilities were affected.

VNIIR-Progress was previously attacked on May 5. The plant manufactures Kometa antennas used by the Russian military to protect drones from Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.

According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the facility also produces satellite GNSS receivers and antennas for GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo-based Kometa modules used in Shahed-type kamikaze drones, Iskander-M and Kalibr missiles, and UMPK guidance kits for aerial bombs.

In addition, residents of the Samara region reported explosions on the night of June 9-10, while the regional governor announced a missile threat alert. Based on eyewitness footage analyzed by ASTRA, the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara was struck and caught fire. The refinery is one of the region's largest oil-processing facilities and is part of Rosneft. The facility was also attacked in January of this year.

ASTRA's OSINT analysis further indicated that the Vtorovo oil pumping station in Russia's Vladimir region was on fire. Witnesses reported smoke rising above the facility near the city of Vladimir. The station is located in the Kameshkovo district, Vladimir region.

A fire at the site was also detected by NASA's FIRMS satellite thermal anomaly monitoring service.

Earlier, Vladimir Region Governor Alexander Avdeev reported fires following UAV strikes on "two infrastructure facilities in the Kameshkovo and Alexandrov districts."

The Vtorovo pumping station was previously attacked on May 24 and had also been struck in September 2025.

Meanwhile, Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed on Wednesday that it had intercepted 326 Ukrainian drones over various Russian regions, as well as over the Black Sea and occupied Crimea. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that seven drones had been shot down while approaching the Russian capital.

In early May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released footage showing the launch of Flamingo missiles against military-industrial targets in Cheboksary, noting that the missiles had traveled more than 1,500 kilometers.
