Russian Shelling In Kharkiv Region Kills Two Emergency Medics

Russian shelling in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed two emergency medical workers and injured another member of the same rescue team, local authorities said.

The attack occurred near the village of Chervona Khvylia in the Velykyi Burluk community, where the victims were responding as part of an emergency medical brigade.

Emergency workers among victims

According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov, the strike killed a 27-year-old and a 56-year-old man, while a 54-year-old medic was wounded.

“All three were members of an emergency medical response team,” Syniehubov wrote in a post on Telegram.

The attack also damaged the team’s emergency medical vehicle.

Wider shelling across the region

Syniehubov reported that 21 settlements across the Kharkiv region came under Russian attack over the past 24 hours.

In the frontline city of Kupyansk, a 63-year-old woman was injured during the shelling.

Russian forces used multiple types of weapons during the strikes, including guided aerial bombs (KAB), Geran-2 attack drones, Lancet drones, Molniya drones, FPV drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, according to regional authorities.

Civilian infrastructure damaged

Shelling damaged civilian infrastructure across several districts of the region.

Residential homes, outbuildings and vehicles were hit in multiple communities, while railway infrastructure was damaged in the Bohodukhiv district. A civilian enterprise was also damaged in the Kupiansk district.

Evacuations continue amid frontline fighting

The transit evacuation center in the city of Lozova received 89 people over the past day, Syniehubov said.

Since the center began operating, more than 22,700 evacuees have passed through the facility.

Syniehubov also reported that 144 combat engagements were recorded along the front line over the past day, including Russian attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses near Vovchanski Khutory, Fyholivka and Vovchansk.

The latest attack comes after a deadly Russian missile strike on a residential building in Kharkiv on March 7, when a ballistic missile hit an apartment block and killed 10 civilians, including children.

That strike was part of a wider wave of missile and drone attacks that also damaged infrastructure in Kyiv and disrupted railway operations across several regions of Ukraine.

Prosecutors later said the attack may have involved Russia’s newly revealed Izdeliye-30 missile, a long-range system believed capable of striking targets across Ukraine.
