The United Nations’ top human rights official has warned that the war involving Iran risks spiralling beyond the region, urging urgent action to halt the fighting.
Speaking at an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, called by Gulf states, High Commissioner Volker Turk described the situation as volatile and unpredictable.
"This conflict has an unprecedented power to ensnare countries across borders and around the world," he said.
He called on governments, especially those with influence, to act immediately to prevent further escalation. "The only guaranteed way to prevent this is to end the conflict, and I urge all states, and particularly those with influence, to do everything in their power to achieve this," he added.
