Lithuania calls for stronger energy support for Ukraine

Ukraine needs greater support for its energy sector ahead of winter as Russia continues to target the country's critical infrastructure.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said this before the start of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Ukraine needs a lot of support, and especially before this winter, as its energy sector is suffering from Russian attacks. They are targeted heavily, as you see," Budrys said.

He added that providing energy assistance is "the duty of all the EU member states," noting that Lithuania is already doing its part.

According to Budrys, such support should include transformers, power generators and other needed equipment.

As reported, Lithuania has also called on EU member states not to host sporting events that allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete.
